Isn’t it funny that Fuck not only means “Make love to me” but also “Do great violence to?” Men love to fuck women. It’s Patriarchy wrapped in four letters!

Never really thought of it that way. But it is alarming (and definitely has a lot to do with rape culture) that one can talk about sex and violence with the same word.

I was in a workshop where we talked about violent words to describe sex. It seems like most words that we use to describe this activity is the penis doing something to the vagina (which I know, is heterosexist and cissexist, but that is how society sees it), and a lot of the time, they are violent words. We talked about how empowering it would be if we started using language that is empowering to female-bodied people during sex (again heterosexist and cissexist) such as “she enveloped him”. Things to think about I guess.

Oh my gawd! This. I’ve been trying to articulate how messed up it is.

I’ve been trying to figure out why I don’t have a problem with it and I think because, for me, its more about a consensual dominance.  I might be the outlier, though, and I do acknowledge that the word is slathered in patriarchy.
